Comments: The 2nd beer of New York State Brewer’s Association’s 24 NY State Beers of Holiday Cheer is Ubu Ale from Lake Placid Pub & Brewery. The iconic Adirondack chair on the can immediately puts me on a lake up in the mountains, surrounded by foliage. This British Strong Ale pours a beautiful coppery brown color with tight white head. The beer is perfectly clear with a sweet malty aroma of caramel and dark fruits, especially plums. There’s just a zip of booze in the aroma as well. Ubu is sweet with caramel and nutty flavors. Despite the sweet flavor, aroma, and moderate alcohol content it sports a light to medium mouthfeel and finishes slightly dry. I really enjoyed Ubu’s complexity and savored it in front of my fireplace while watching football on a rainy Upstate NY day.
