Great Notion is solidly in the category of brewery that we now buy every single beer we see available from them. The Fruit Monster is a fruited sour ale and Great Notion has absolutely nailed it again. I’m truly starting to wonder if there’s a style of beer that they haven’t mastered. My only complaint – the price of their 4-packs give a bit of sticker shock, but they’re still totally worth it.
Brewery: Great Notion Brewing (Portland, OR)
Rating: 92/100
Comments: Fruit Monster pours a slightly hazy golden color with quite a bit of foamy white head, but it doesn’t stick around long. The aroma is tart and fruity (no surprise), and the mango notes are especially strong. The flavor is incredibly fruit-forward with powerful mango and pineapple notes that are late to arrive to the palate. The tropical flavors have a creamy quality and the tartness is well controlled. It’s on the lighter end of medium-bodied and is well-carbonated, which adds to the beer’s tingling-puckering tartness. It’s just another fantastic sour out of Great Notion.
