A few years ago, there were a lot of beer experts saying that New England IPAs were a fad that would go away. Instead, I feel like the style has only grown and evolved. Now there are New England Double IPAs and even New England style Pale Ales like Lone Pine’s Laser Show. This was one of those cans that my wife saw and shouted over to me because she needed me to put it in our cart right away. I mean, the can looks like a party – how could we not pick it up?
Brewery: Lone Pine Brewing Co. (Portland, Maine)
Rating: 85/100
Comments: Laser Show New England Pale Ale pours a hazy gold color with fluffy white foam comprised of abundant tiny bubbles. The aroma is complex and dank with pine resin, caramel, toffee, and orange marmalade, along with other stone fruit. The taste follows the nose pretty closely, including earthy notes, pine, orange citrus, melon, and peach. It’s relatively light-bodied, slightly juicy – but not too much, and has a moderate amount of carbonation. It’s a really solid example of the mix between “New England” style beer and a traditional American pale ale.
