There are some foods that I just don’t like. Sometimes my tastes will change as I get older (brussels sprouts are good now?), but there’s one Thanksgiving staple that I still can’t stand – cranberries. I was a bit nervous trying Community Beer Works’ Gose with Cran & Orange because of that, but it ended up being a really solid example of the style.
Brewery: Community Beer Works (Buffalo, NY)
Rating: 83/100
Comments: This Gose poured a crystal clear dark straw color with a solid amount of white head. The aroma is of tart lactose with orange citrus, reminiscent of Sunkist or Tang, with a salty undertone. The taste itself isn’t quite as tart as the aroma teased. The flavor has strong notes of orange peel and the cranberry comes through much more here than in the aroma. It’s a salty beer that also sneaks in some notes of white grape. The saltiness affects both the flavor and the mouthfeel, making my mouth water for more. It’s very light-bodied and moderately carbonated. Overall, it’s a really nice Gose, even though I’m typically not a fan of cranberry!
