Early on during this pandemic, we decided that we would make our way through all the pizza joints that were near our home and pick our go-to place. Unfortunately, what we found is that pizza delivery isn’t very cheap and, often, the quality isn’t very good either. We decided that we would go all-in on making our own pizza at home so we bought a pizza stone, a peel, and started doing some research. We’ve eaten a lot of pizza this year, and it’s all been made by us and it’s all been tasty.
After all this pizza and the growth of our beer blog, I saw Pizza Garlic Cheese Curds at the store. Could someone have used pizza ingredients or cheese curds in beer? Well, no – they didn’t use any of that to make this New England IPA. Aurora Brewing Co.’s assistant brewer eats these garlic cheese curds while at work and since he got to pick his favorite hop combo for this beer, they named the beer after his favored snack. Well, the name got me interested – and the hop combo got me to stick around.
Brewery: Aurora Brewing Co. (King Ferry, NY)
Rating: 81/100
Comments: This beer pours a dark straw color with slightly creamy white head. It is extremely hazy and has quite a bit of sediment. The aroma is of tropical fruit with notes of mango, melon, pineapple, and coconut. Many of those same fruits come through in the flavor, but mango is the strongest. It’s a soft and juicy beer, with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. Not surprisingly, the name of this beer caught my attention in the store and I look forward to trying more brews from Aurora!
