Frog Alley Strawberry Milkshake IPA

There’s a little restaurant where I grew up called Jimmy’s Diner. It’s a classic 50’s diner atmosphere and I used to love going for a burger, fries, and a milkshake – of course. As an FYI, I strongly prefer malt shakes. The best part of Jimmy’s though was that when you’d order the classic milkshake they’s also give you the metal cup with all the extra shake that didn’t fit in the fancy glass. For some reason, that portion was always the best part.

Frog Alley’s color scheme and classic milkshake design for their Strawberry Milkshake IPA immediately sent me back to my childhood visiting that diner, so I was really excited to give it a review. Strawberry is delicious, but it’s also subtle and I think it can be difficult to squeeze out a strong flavor from them into beer, and I was hoping for something great in this Milkshake IPA.

Brewery: Frog Alley Brewing Co. (Schenectady, NY)

Rating: 78/100

Comments: This milkshake IPA pours a hazy golden color with bubbly white head. The aroma is pretty light and I mainly pick up lactose with fruity notes in the background. The strawberry is more present in the taste than the aroma, and its tartness balances the lactose flavor. It’s not quite as fruity or creamy as I would anticipate for a milkshake IPA, but it’s plenty enjoyable.
