Symbology and history both interest me a lot, so I went down a little bit of a rabbit hole reading about the symbol that gives this beer its name, Enso. Not only is this a crisp, beautiful can from an extremely well-regarded brewery, but this beer also serves as a tribute to the symbol that Equilibrium uses as their logo. While it’s just a symbol, the idea it represents is extremely important to the brewers and something we can all take inspiration from during this year when we’ve all been searching for new hobbies to keep us busy.
Brewery: Equilibrium Brewery (Middletown, NY)
Rating: 93/100
Comments: Enso is named after the Zen hand-drawn circle that is also Equilibrium’s famous logo (notably, an open circle), symbolizing freedom and enlightenment. Enso pours a densely hazy straw color with a lot of cloud-like white head. There’s a great amount of lacing left on the glass. The aroma is like smelling a fruit bowl with grapefruit, orange citrus, and melon with some piney notes added in. The flavor is similar with orange citrus, melon, pineapple, and a tiny bit of grapefruit. The lactose in this beer provides its smooth creaminess, while still being sweet and dry. Enso is a really strong entry in the Equilibrium lineup.
