Bright Ideas Aztec Winter

I first had Aztec Winter last winter on a visit to Bright Ideas. While I really like Bright Ideas’ beers, Aztec Winter was immediately and without a doubt my favorite beer from them so far. Unfortunately, the 4 packs they had last year of this beer weren’t available this time but I still picked up a couple of crowlers of it. It’s certainly a seasonal I’ll be purchasing every time it’s released.

Brewery: Bright Ideas Brewing Co. (North Adams, MA)

Rating: 97/100

Comments: Aztec Winter pours a pitch black color with creamy brown head. The aroma immediately brings Mexican hot chocolate and coffee to mind, with cinnamon, cayenne, chili, and milk chocolate. All of the elements of the aroma come through in the taste, but the soft and smooth mouthfeel really enhances the chocolate notes. The texture and flavor of this beer come together perfectly, with the smoothness and creaminess combining with the chili spice for a fantastic sip. These Mexican spiced stouts are easily one of my favorite styles of beer and Aztec Winter is in a class of its own.
