It’s starting to get chilly around Upstate New York so I’m starting to pick up a lot more stouts. Half Acre is a Chicago brewery that I’ve had a couple of beers from so I picked up Big Hugs on my last beer run. I love the style of the can and I’m always going to be interested in a big Imperial Coffee Stout.
Brewery: Half Acre Beer Co. (Chicago, IL)
Rating: 86/100
Comments: Big Hugs pours a pitch black color with a little bit of light tan head. The aroma is overwhelmingly of booze, but I pick up chocolate and a touch of vanilla nonetheless. I was surprised that I didn’t detect any coffee notes in the aroma, but it does come through in the taste. When it comes to the flavor, this beer is boozy, but the booze and coffee are balanced with fudgy and sweet notes. I opened this up on a cool morning with the windows open and it definitely wrapped me in its warmth for a great overall drinking experience. A smooth and full-bodied stout!
