When I moved to New York’s Capital Region a bit over a year ago, I had already done a lot of research on the breweries in the area because, frankly, I do that for everywhere all the time. I started telling people that there was a brewery in Colonie called Fidens and basically no one knew it was there. That made me sort of curious so it was one of the first ones I visited and it was a classic hole in the wall place. I took my family there and we were basically the only people there but the beer was fantastic so I bought a bottle to go and some other swag they had. It’s now a year later, and we’ve started getting involved in the Instagram beer community – and suddenly we started seeing Fidens crowlers all over these other accounts. Accounts from London, California, Florida, everywhere. Apparently, the word was out that this little brewery just down the road from our apartment was doing something special.
Anyway, it had been a while since we’d stopped in so we recently drove over and picked up a few crowlers of their current offerings, including Noine Noine.
Brewery: Fidens Brewing Co. (Colonie, NY)
Rating: 87/100
Comments: Noine Noine pours an opaque dark straw color with abundant white foamy head. The aroma is very tropical, but it is difficult to identify any specific fruits in the mix. There’s basically no perceived bitterness, but quite a lot of flavor. It’s cloyingly sweet with a medium to heavy mouthfeel. It’s remarkably creamy and smooth, like Fidens’ other brews. This brewery is very distinct in their DIPAs and there is good reason why they are growing in popularity. I’m just glad they’re only a few minutes down the road from me!
