Old Nation Electron Brown

It had been too long since I’d had a brown ale so while I was browsing the shelves upon shelves of IPAs and I came across Electron Brown, I decided I needed to give it a try. Plus, I love coffee so I was further convinced by the “Espresso Bean Double Brown Ale” on the label.

Brewery: Old Nation Brewing Co. (Williamston, MI)

Rating: 84/100

Comments: Electron Brown is brewed with chestnuts that are steeped in the whirlpool during the brewing process. It pours an opaque brown, with some ruby showing at the bottom of the glass. The head is a beautiful, creamy tan. It has a fantastic aroma of chocolate, coffee, dark malt, and toffee. The flavor isn’t quite as strong as the aroma, but it still has abundant coffee, chocolate, and some chestnut flavor. There’s a bit of coffee astringency that takes away from my drinking experience. It’s medium-bodied, moderately carbonated and quite smooth. The flavor fell just short of matching the wonderful aroma.
