I’m a big fan of Bright Ideas, which is about 10 minutes down the road from my in-laws’ house, and they released one of these Quaffable Waffle stouts shortly after I moved to Upstate NY but I wasn’t able to make the short trip over to the brewery before it was gone. Needless to say, I was dying to get some of this newest iteration, Quaffable Waffe: Peanut Butter. Well, I finally got a crowler of it after making a special trip over – and I will definitely be doing the same the next time one of these beers comes out.

Comments: Quaffable Waffle is an imperial pastry stout brewed with waffles. Each iteration in the series features a classic waffle topping: this time being peanut butter, one of my personal favorites! It pours an opaque black with several fingers of light brown, creamy head. Peanut butter dominates the aroma, with maple syrup and milk chocolate in the background. The peanut butter is lighter in the flavor than the aroma, but is still very present. The taste starts with chocolate, before moving to vanilla and even some faint berry compote flavor. It’s a thick, cloyingly sweet mouthfeel with low carbonation. If you like peanut butter and pastry stouts, you’ll love this.
