I typically try not to fall into hype machines, but I see so many people raving about Great Notion’s beers on the internet that when I saw my local bottle shop announce they had just gotten some of their cans here in New York, I snatched up my keys and went right away. The first of the two beers I bought was Ripe, a hazy IPA with a skeleton character on the can. It took one sip to understand why people were so excited about these beers.
Brewery: Great Notion Brewing (Portland, OR)
Rating: 95/100
Comments: Ripe pours a turbid, light to medium straw color with long lasting head. It has a strong citrus aroma with orange, mango, and honeydew all included. The taste is loaded with tropical fruits – orange, melon, papaya, pineapple, and a hint of guava. The mouthfeel is soft overall, and starts and finishes with dry bitterness.
