Buried Acorn Chainsaws And Kittens Grisette

Chainsaws And Kittens was purchased on the strength of the name and can art, as well as my interest in lesser known beer styles. I might do a longer post about the style itself, but Grisettes are a sub-category of the Saison. They are similarly dry and light. They were brewed mostly for miners, and the name translates to ‘little gray’. There are several origin stories for the name, but it seems that referencing the gray dust covering miners at the end of their shift would be the most believable.

Acorns: foraged from the parking lot

Brewery: Buried Acorn Brewing Co. (Syracuse, NY)

Rating: 89/100

Comments: This Grisette is clear, dark straw to light golden in color. The head was active and white, but faded quickly. Banana is prominent in both the aroma and flavor. Bready notes and light fruitiness make up the rest of the aroma. The flavor tiptoes up to sweetness, but doesn’t quite get there before being rounded out with clove. This beer is dry, light-bodied, and only 3.5% ABV, but has the complexity of a bigger beer. It’s a great example of the Grisette style for drinkers that are looking to get familiar with it.
